This dessert is awesome, not sweet at all and absolutely yummy. If you love apples this is a must be made dessert and I want a sample, People! I've been pestering a few of the lovely Polish ladies at work for this recipe (fun fact: 3 are named Barbara). They were translating the recipe from Polish so its a little rough, so I will be updating it once I try to make this dessert. I beg them to make this dessert for me. Its not really an Apple Pie or Cake or Tart, its more like a dessert bar.
Szarlotka (Apple Tart)
2 1/2 Cups Flour
1 Cup of softened butter / unsalted margarine
1/4 cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 Egg Yolk
2 Tbsp cold water
2 lbs Apples (preferably MacIntosh) cored, peeled and cut into quarters
Cinnamon
Chop together with a knife the flour, butter, sugar, egg, egg yolk and water to make the dough.
2/3 of the dough roll with the rolling pin and put at the bottom of your baking pan. 1/3 of dough place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Using 2 lbs of Apples fry on low heat with a few tablespoons of sugar and some cinnamon. Cool to room temperature. Place on dough in baking pan. Shred remaining dough onto top of apples.
Bake 45 - 55 minutes @ 350F.
